1982

You open some up and read at random:

"Jerky was no longer available in the stores, having been outlawed by the dictatorial regime which had ruled the country for the past ten years.  Instead, a low-calorie dried vegetable was available, but this always gave Winston gas.  He went out into the forest, hoping to find a dead animal which had lain in the sun long enough that it turned to jerky on its own.  Entering the forest just past the junkyard, he searched westwards until he did find such a place.  Then, finding the jerky, he shared its bounty, and was rewarded."

That was strange.

You put it up and head back out into the square.
