This is a clever display of fireplace statues, very popular in the pioneer era as ways to hold fire tongs, wood, or any other accoutrements that were needed to heat houses. These always came in pairs, and were often whimsical in nature, like a dog and a cat, a gnome and a giant, or the three musketeers.
